Coventry half marathon helpers Celebrating with the Mayor

2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron Cadets and staff enjoyed tea with  Coventry 's Lord Mayor Brian Kelsey, as a thank-you for their efforts in helping the council with the Coventry Half Marathon.

Staff and Cadets joined other volunteers and prize winners at the event held at St Mary's Guildhall in Coventry , on Monday 12 July 2010.

The Coventry Half Marathon is an annual event covering 13 miles of Coventry 's streets. The event was organised by Paul Claridge and his team from Coventry City Council and saw the cadets along with hundreds of other volunteers coordinating the provision of route direction facilities, to ensure the 2500 competitors remained on course.

The invitation to the Guildhall, as well as being an evening of presentations and thank you's, also unveiled the DVD of the Half Marathon. This showed all of the hard work put into the event by the organisers and volunteers.

2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadrons Flight Sergeant Alan Tillman who organised the cadets involvement with the race said ‘It is an honour for all those involved to be invited to this event'. The cadets had an entertaining evening and enjoyed mingling with the other volunteers, prize winners and the Lord Mayor'.

The cadets from 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron volunteer at many events in and around the City of Coventry . Not only does it benefit the community it also benefits the cadets with their V awards and their Duke of Edinburgh's award.

So far this year the cadets have volunteered in Kenilworth helping at the Kenilworth party in the park and 2 castles run and in Coventry with the half marathon and fun run.
