On the evening of Friday 6 November 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron were invited by The Royal British Legion to help sell poppies and raise money for the 2009 Poppy Appeal. They joined ex-service veterans, members of the Royal British Legion and The Army Cadets at the Butts Arena to sell the poppies at the Coventry versus London Welsh Rugby game. The collection took place prior to the Rugby match and the cadets circulated around the stadium collecting money and selling the poppies.
It was an impressive turn out from the cadets as it was an extremely cold and wet evening. The reception from the public was excellent and many people commented on how smart the cadets looked and how nice it was to see them helping the Royal British Legion with this great cause.
The Cadets also got the chance to watch what turned out to be a very disappointing game for the home team but the cadets enjoyed it nevertheless .
Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams, Officer Commanding 2438 Squadron said : 'The Squadron jumped at the chance to help the British Legion raise money for the poppy appeal. This is an important event in the Squadron Calendar and it gives the Cadets the opportunity to recognise the sacrifices made in the name of freedom and to be able to raise vital funds to support the work of the Royal British Legion. I must thank The Royal British Legion for organising tickets to watch the Rugby and to the Cadets for giving up their time for this very worthwhile cause'. |
