A Birmingham man is on cloud nine after passing the Air Training Corps’ Officers’ Senior Course at RAF College Cranwell in Lincolnshire – the home of the RAF.
Flying Officer Mohammed Aftab, aged 32, successfully completed the week-long course which was held at the Air Training Corps’ Adult Training Facility, part of HQ Air Cadets between 10 th – 15 th January 2010.
Mohammed, who is the Officer In Charge of 2504 (Archbishop Grimshaw School) Squadron, said: “The course was really interesting and covered everything from personnel, budgets and health and safety to media and communications.”
It was hugely rewarding to be nominated for the course and to learn about the latest developments in the Air Training Corps. I will always remember being at RAF Cranwell – it is both home of the Royal Air Force and of HQ Air Cadets.”
Mohammed was one of 18 officers on the nationally run course, which is managed by Squadron Leader Ray Pelcot.
Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Pelcot said: “I am very proud to say that Fg Off Aftab flew through the course and is a credit to the Air Training Corps.”
Fg Off Aftab, is a senior conductor at Birmingham New Street Railway Station, but swaps his uniform two evenings a week to help the Air Training Corps.
He manages 2504 (Archbishop Grimshaw School) Squadron where 25 young people aged 13 & 3months - 20 are offered a diverse range of activities – from flying and gliding to marksmanship, adventure training and expeditions as well as BTECs and First Aid.
2504 (Archbishop Grimshaw School) Squadron, which has its HQ in Chelmsley Road, is currently looking for more adult volunteers.
