29F and 198 Cadets Remembering the Few!

Cadets from 29F (Rugby) Squadron and 198 (Hinckley) Squadron teamed up and travelled to Kent over the May Bank Holiday. An advance party set out on Friday 27 th May 2011 and travelled to Dibgate Army Training Camp, Cheriton, Folkestone, where they set up the campsite in preparation for the arrival of all the other cadets on the Saturday morning brought down by Flt Lt Chris Parry. Over the weekend the cadets covered camp craft skills and navigations skills which they can then use towards the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

On Sunday 29 th May the cadets took part in the annual Spitfire March where they could choose to complete either 12km, 27km or 40km march. This year we undertook the 27km march. Setting off at 0900 the march was completed by 1600.

During the weekend a visit was paid to the Battle of Britain Memorial where we struck lucky as when we arrived we were told that there was to be a Spitfire air display. This lasted for nearly an hour, and was a tribute to the pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain which made the visit even more special.

Cadets Remembering the Few on the Spitfire March

Sergeant Lee Ison, 29F adventure training officer, commented “this was the first time any of us had attended the Spitfire March but it turned out to be a fantastic weekend and all the cadets completed the march with extreme enthusiasm and I hope that this can become an annual event for the two squadrons.”
