| Sunday 4th December saw 5 cadets travel to 8 Air Experience Flight (AEF) at RAF Cosford. Three of the cadets had never flown in a Tutor before and all the cadets were to have a fantastic day.
It was a bright day when the cadets arrived at RAF Cosford and Flt Lt Dave Fowler, OC 8 AEF, explained to the cadets that there was a rain front due over Cosford by 1500 and that he wanted to get as many cadets flying before then.
The briefing for cadets at the AEF is now more comprehensive, indeed all the cadets have to put on a parachute and go through the emergency procedures on a new piece of equipment. This enables the cadets to practice exiting the aircraft should they need too. All the cadets also get the chance to pull the D ring on their practice parachute.
The cadets were soon in the air and all came back down with tales of completing aerobatics, and actually controlling the aircraft themselves.
All five of the cadets from 485 Sqn flew on the day. When they left at 1450, the heavens opened and a storm blew over RAF Cosford, the forecast had proved correct.
Flt Lt Simon Jennings, OC 485 Sqn commented “It's always good to take first time flyers to RAF Cosford, particularly when they get airborne and have a fantastic time. I would like to pass on my thanks to Flt Lt Fowler and his staff for enabling the cadets to have a great time at the AEF”.
