Get Those Bags Packed

485 Get Those Bags PackedSunday 18 th December was a busy day for 15 cadets from 485 (Harborne and Quinton) Sqn. One of the Sqns cadets who lives in Moseley had earlier in the year written to all his local supermarkets asking if the Sqn could carry out a bag pack.

Cdt Alistair Mosson received replies from two supermarkets, Asda and Sainsbury's, and they agreed that the Sqn could carry out bag packs. The Sqn's cadets carried out the bag pack at ASDA in Kings Heath in September 2011 and raised a total of over £400 in just a few hours of bag packing.

The second bag pack of the year was carried at Sainsbury's, again in Kings Heath on 18 th December. The cadets and staff arrived at the store at 11.30 and bag packed until the store closed at 1600. Not only were they bag packing, two cadets were also handing out baskets as the customers arrived into the store (and collecting money for this as well)!

In just over 4 hours the cadets had raised a total of £408, again a good sum for a short time.

Flt Lt Simon Jennings commented “Collecting via bag packing is becoming harder as supermarkets close tills and go over to self serve tills, however, the 15 cadets who attended on the day at Sainsburys worked hard and we received some favourable comments from the public re the cadets turn out etc. I would like to thank the cadets who attended on the day in helping to raise vital funds for the Sqn, and I would also like to thank Mr Mick Fawke, the new Civilian Committee Chairman for coming along and to CI Richard Mcgeachie for helping me out on the day. I would also like to thank the staff at Sainsburys in Kings Heath for allowing us to pack on the day”.
