| Air cadets from 485 (Quinton & Harborne) Squadron took part in the Midlands largest and busiest Steam, Military and Vintage car show at Hanbury near Bromsgrove at the weekend. The Hanbury show was also featured on Central News on Friday evening with the presenter almost crashing a steam truck thought a tent!
The star of the event was Corporal Jones's Van from the hit comedy show "Dad's Army", which arrived on the Sunday morning. The vehicle was a 1935 Ford BB van, which appeared in most of the episodes produced between 1968 and 1977. The van now belongs to the Patrick Collection which shows many classic cars spanning the last 100 years of motoring history.
The Squadron maintained the service gates during both days which saw around 3000 to 5000 visitors per day. Cadets were assisting with requests from the public as well as exhibitors showing a range of heavy steam engines, Military vehicles and vintage cars.
Flight Lieutenant Peter Coates, Officer Commanding 485 Squadron said : "The cadets did a fantastic job. It's not easy dealing with so many requests from members of the public and still delivering a high level of service. We managed to provide a good service to the organizers and the public. We found the cadets' communications training proved invaluable, and made the whole event very worthwhile".
