| Two cadets from 485 (Harborne & Quinton) Squadron have recently been awarded their Provisional VHF/UHF Operator Certificates following a one day course in September at RAF Stafford organised by the local Wing.
485 Squadron have a thriving radio section and all the cadets are overseen and trained by the unit Commanding Officer Flt Lt Peter Coates who is himself a keen radio operator and a member of the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Radio Team headed by Flying Officer David Pink who is also the Regional Radio Officer.
On a recent visit to 485 Squadron the Wing Training & Personnel Officer Sqn Ldr Martin Harrison who presented the certificates to Daniel Cogswell & Kayleigh Driscoll said,
"I am really pleased that radio training is back on the Wing agenda after a bit of a lull. It is an important method of teaching cadets the correct procedures and disciplines involved in RT communication and in todays modern world an alternative to
e-mail and texts! It also gives youngsters an opportunity of talking and getting to know peoples from many different countries". |
