| Sunday 13 th November saw 18 cadets and 4 staff travel from the Sqn headquarters to the Northfield British Legion Club to take part in the annual remembrance service.
The cadets and staff were soon busy when they arrived at the club helping to sort out the order of the wreaths. At 10.25 Flt Lt Jennings was asked if he would be the parade commander for the day, a task which he hesitantly took up! Following a conversation with the local Vicar and the local MP, he was also asked to read the poem “in Flanders field”. FS Richard Coates was also asked to lower, and then raise the Union Flag during the ceremony.
A large audience gathered around the club's memorial and these included veteran's of the second world war, as well as veteran's from more recent conflicts in the Middle East . The Sqn's cadets were asked to line the steps leading down the memorial where they formed a guard of honour for the veteran's who were laying wreaths.
Flt Lt Simon Jennings, OC 485 Sqn commented “I would like to firstly thank all the cadets and staff for turning up on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, probably the warmest remembrance parade I've ever taken part in! The cadets did a fantastic job and I had some nice comments re their turnout at the end of the parade. This was a special parade and it was extremely good to see not only veterans at the parade, but a large contingent of cubs and scouts who helped the veterans down the steps to lay their wreaths.”
