Saturday 8 th May 2010 was a red letter day for 487 (Kingstanding and Perry Barr) Sqn's Sgt Jack Kirby as he formed part of the Air Training Corps Rugby Union Team.
The ATC team, which was drawn from all regions across the UK , were playing a team from Shrewsbury Rugby Club. The game was re-organised after the original game planned for January had to be cancelled at the last minute.
Sgt Kirby has represented both the wing and region many times and this was a great way to cap those “blues” by winning a Corps blue.
In what turned out to be a hard fought game, the ATC eventually lost to the more practised and drilled Shrewsbury team. The ATC team had only come together the night before the game and they played extremely well especially in the second half of the game.
Flt Lt O'Neill, OC 487 Sqn commented “I watched this game along with cadets from 487 Sqn and I was very impressed with Sgt Kirby's personal performance, and also that of the whole team. He is a great credit to both himself, but also our Sqn, we all feel very proud that he represented the whole Corps at Rugby ”.
