Fantastic Prizes at the 487 Sqn Raffle

Fantastic Prizes at the 487 Sqn RaffleTuesday 16 th November saw the culmination of weeks of hard work when the Sqn's raffle was drawn. Mr David Gooding, County Chairman of the Royal British Legion in Birmingham , kindly agreed to draw the prizes on the night.

The raffle had been organised by the 487 Sqn Civilian Committee earlier in the year and in late September it was all systems go and the tickets were handed out to the cadets, friends and families.

It was announced on the night that the Sqn had sold over £1100's worth of tickets and when the raffle expenditure was taken into account the Sqn had made a clear profit of over £880.

The Sqn had decided earlier in the year to donate a proportion of the monies collected to the Royal Air Forces Association(RAFA). 2010 has seen the 70 th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the Sqn thought it appropriate to mark this event in some way.

It was announced by Mrs Jane Jennings, Chairman of the Civilian Committee, that the Sqn would be making a donation of £400 to RAFA.

Flt Lt Brendan O'Neill, OC 487 Sqn commented “This has been a great effort by all the cadets of both our Sqn and the Detached Flight. I would like to firstly thank Mr David Gooding from the British Legion for agreeing to come and draw the prizes. I would also like to thank the Civilian Committee for all the hard work that they have put into this project. It's great that we can donate such a large amount of money to RAFA, particularly in this anniversary year.”
