On 27 th May 2008, the new Central and East Regional Commandant, Gp Capt Morrell, visited 487 Sqn, Kingstanding and Perry Barr ATC. 487 Sqn was the first Sqn in the Warwick and Birmingham Wing to be visited by the Commandant, and the first time the Sqn has been visited by the Regional Commandant since 2001.
Flt Lt O'Neill, OC 487 Sqn greeted the Commandant along with Sqn Ldr Coats who was also visiting the Sqn to deliver Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Despite it being half term, there was a good turn out of cadets on the evening. The Sqn is currently deep into a training programme for the Wing Field Training day on 22 nd June, and the Commandant was given a drill demonstration which also included a short period of continuity drill.
At the final parade, Gp Capt Morrell thanked all the cadets for parading, in particular the new group of probationers currently under going training on the Sqn. The Commandant was particularly impressed with the Sqn's overall training record, in particular in the area of sports, DofE and Aircraft Recognition.
Gp Capt Morrell also handed out Bronze DofE awards to Cpl Rigby, Cdt Mcguire, Cdt Webb and Cdt Creamer.
