Saturday evening brought together the Mayor of Solihull and Senior Military Commanders from across all levels of the Air Cadet Organisation to 489 Squadrons Annual Awards Night at the Westley Hotel to celebrate Cadet Achievements as well as celebrating their 70 th anniversary .
The awards ceremony was also attended by parents to help celebrate their own child’s achievements , in areas of the academic syllabus, adventure training and sporting prowess.
Along with cadet achievements 2 staff were also thanked, Cpl Simon Watson from the Royal Air Force and Padre Neil Bayliss who both presented with Certificates of Merit from the Regional Commandant, Group Captain Brett Morrell who said ‘It’s these fine examples of dedication the ACO really rely on so heavily to operate, and we appreciate all they do’.

Officer Commanding 489 Squadron Flt Lt Joanna Coles was also commended by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain for her outstanding commitment in youth development and was impressed with the high calibre of Air Cadets at 489 Squadron.
The night which was full of praise and hard work finished in style with a great party atmosphere provided by the 489 Squadron band, who performed several hits and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those attending.
Flt Lt Joanna Coles said ‘Without the commitment from parents, cadets and staff the Squadron would not be as successful as it is and I thank you all for your support’.
