This Christmas Air Cadets from 489 Squadron (Acocks Green & Olton) have been spreading the festive cheer amongst shoppers at their local Morrisons Supermarket.
Cadets spent all day on the 23 rd and Christmas Eve raising money for their Squadron by helping shoppers move through the checkouts with speed. By helping local shoppers pack their bags, or on the odd occasion paid Cadets not to pack their bags, either way, shoppers were very generous and the Squadron raised a staggering £ 2300.
The funds will go along way to ensure that all the Cadets have equal opportunities with activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, flying, field craft training, team building and leadership activities.
Sgt Patrick Cassidy said ‘The Cadets worked hard to ensure shoppers moved through the busy Christmas checkouts with ease and would like to thank everyone who donated this Christmas'.
Squadron Commander, Flt Lt Jo Coles said, “All too often we are seeing the disastrous effects of bullying on our young people. We need to actively listen to their concerns, encourage young people to have their say and ensure effective support mechanisms are in place when professional help is needed.
