Cadets aged 13-18, from 489 (Acocks Green & Olton) Sqn were recently out in the community engaging with the West Midlands Fire & Rescue Service.
The cadets visited the local Hay Mills community Fire station in the Yardley area, which covers the area of Acocks Green and interacted with the duty fire crew. The cadets had chance to dress up in the fire kits and have the chance to use operational equipment such as the fire appliances and the hose reel as well as fire safety issues which affect youngsters.
This opportunity helps the cadets learn more about respecting their community and the brave people who protect them, whilst enjoying and learning in a grown up environment.
Sgt (ATC) Patrick Cassidy said: "The cadets thoroughly enjoyed the evening and had some great opportunities for which many youngsters never get the chance to do, the firefighters really are role models in today's society which the cadets respect."
