The Media and Communication Awards (MACAs) ceremony which took place at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell on 27th November was the Air Cadet equivalent of the Oscars.
In the Category Best News Article - 489 (Acocks Green & Olton) squadron was nominated for their article 'Poppy Appeal cadets net a winner at Villa Park' written by Cpl Simon Watson RAF.
During her address, Air Commodore Barbara Cooper said, “I am very proud to see so much excellent work has been done to raise the profile of the cadets this year”.
“There is no doubt that media communications is key to our engagement strategy and tonight we have showcased some of the finest work undertaken by our cadets and staff over the last 12 months. Congratulations to the winners and all of the nominees for their sterling efforts”.
“Within the current financial climate, Engagement with our stakeholders is key to the success of the Air Cadets and with our 70th anniversary in 2011 we need to take media and communications very seriously indeed”.
489 Squadron (Acocks Green & Olton) have worked tirelessly throughout 2010 to raise the profile of the Squadron and the Air Training Corps as a whole.
Flt Lt Coles Commanding Officer said ‘It was a great honour to be nominated from over 900 Squadrons worldwide, finishing in the nominated top 4 is as amazing achievement for the Squadron and we hope to continue in our success'.
