Flying the flag sky high
at the National Outdoor Leisure Show

Cadets from 489 Squadron (Acocks Green & Olton) have been flying the Air Cadet Organisation flag sky high at the first ever Outdoor Leisure Show at the NEC.

The Cadets had the great opportunity to meet and chat with Monty Halls, a writer, explorer, television presenter and public speaker. Aswell as former Royal Marines officer who worked for Nelson Mandela on the peace process in South Africa, he left the services in 1996 to pursue a career in leading expeditions.

Cadets talked to other youngsters visiting the show who were intrested in flying, action and adventure and were encouraging them to join the organisation, Cadets also experienced canoeing, rock climbing and bushcraft skills at the outdoor stage.

Cpl Simon Watson, Air Cadet Show Organiser said 'This was a great platform to showcase the great opportunities the Air Cadets have to offer today's youngsters, with several thousand visitors to the show, we hoped to of raised the profile of the Air Cadets in today's society'.
