489 (Acocks Green & Olton) Squadron have recently recruited 2 new team members.
Matt Seabright, former Army Soldier and Patrick Cassidy, former Navy sailor, are the 2 new team members which have successfully completed the rigorous entry interviews and now successfully hold the rank of Sergeant within the Air Training Corps.
 Matt Seabright, former soldier in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for 15yrs, has a vast amount of experience to bring to the Air Training Corps. Having served much of his time in operational areas such as, Bosnia, Iraq and Northern Ireland and then finally settling in Birmingham, as an instructor in ‘weapons and tactics’ for recruit trainees in the Territorial Army.
Matt says ‘I hope that the leadership skills I’ve gained from being in the Armed Forces will help me mentor and develop the young Cadets and provide them with a sense of citizenship along with some great life skills’.
Patrick Cassidy, former Royal Navy Sailor for 5yrs, served aboard 2 major HMS ships in which they deployed operational to the Falklands, Iraq and the Suez Canal. Patricks role whilst in the Royal Navy was to provide above water force protection to HMS Sutherland and Dumbarton Castle.
Officer Commanding Jo Coles, 489 (Acocks Green & Olton) Squadron said ‘I’m extremely pleased to have Matt and Patrick involved with the Squadron. I really do believe that the Cadets will learn some of the great attributes Matt and Patrick have to offer’.
