Congratulations to Padre Neil Bayliss (489 Acocks Green & Olton Sqn) who has been appointed the new Deputy Chaplin for the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing.
Father Neil Bayliss is no stranger to the Air Cadet Organisation, with a vast array of diversity and experience spanning over a commendable 30 yrs.
In1972 Neil Joined 2012 (Caldicote) Sqn and quickly flew through the ranks to Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO).
At 20 Neil was commissioned to Pilot Officer and relocated 1461 (Wigston) Sqn.
With his outstanding leadership abilities he was quickly promoted to Flt Lt and the Officer Commanding of 1181 (Goscote) Sqn. Whilst commanding 1181 Sqn Neil attended the University of Leicester studying History and Politics and passed with a BA Hons Degree.
In 1985 Neil found his faith and went back to University in Oxford to study Theology but still kept an interest in the Air Cadet Organisation and became the Adjutant at 150 (City of Oxford) Sqn and in 1988 was ordained to priest hood. With priesthood commitments Neil unfortunately resigned his commission with the Air Training Corps.
In 1992 Neil moved to Birmingham where he began a teaching post at St Peters Catholic School, Solihull is now the padre and instructor at 489 (Acocks Green & Olton) Sqn where his 2 daughters also attend.
2003 Neil was appointed chaplain to the Heart of England NHS Trust, where he is the Senior Roman Catholic Chaplin at 2 hospitals – Heartlands and Solihull and covers the Parish of Hall Green.
