The Kriegie Trophy has been awarded to Cadet Flight Sergeant Ben Homer of
492 (Solihull) Squadon. Every year, selected Air Cadets attend Cadet
Leadership Courses at the Cadet Training Centre (CTC), Frimley Park. The
Kriegie Trophy is awarded to the Cadet who, in the opinion of the Commandant
and the staff officers of CTC Frimley Park, was the best of the Air Cadets
who attended the course in that particular year.
This is the first time that a cadet from Warwickshire & Birmimgham Wing has
won this prestigious award, which is why we are particularly proud he is
part of 492 squadron.
Ben also received a personal letter from Commandant Air Cadets, Air
Commodore Gordon Moulds officially congratulating him for his 'tremendous
achievement'. The award is to to be presented to Ben at a ceremony due in
early 2007, which is to be attended by both Group Captain Ford and also the
Commandant of the Air Cadets.
However...Ben's celebrations don't end there. On the 21st November, Ben left
492 squadron to join the Royal Marines. Having worked hard in the ATC for
nearly 4 years, Ben has recently had to go through a rigorous process to
become a Royal Marine including; 2 interviews, a psychometric test, a
medical, a 1.5 mile run and then the Potential Royal Marines Course.
In Bens own words: "The ATC helped prepare me for this as it gave me
discipline, and a good understanding of military life. It also taught me
life skills such as how to work in a team, but also as an individual and it
has prepared me mentally for my future."
We wish Ben all the luck in his future within the Royal Marines
