Role Swapping at 493 (Kings Heath & Moseley) squadron

Ever thought, you could run the squadron better than it is? Think the NCO's are a bit harsh? Think you could do better? Lets admit it, at some point whether you're a new recruit or senior cadet, everyone has secretly thought about one of the above.

A role switch evening is the perfect way to let cadets explore the ups and downs of being an NCO or staff officer and to understand the amount of planning which goes into running a squadron successfully.

Just imagine, one parade you're a cadet, the next you're the Warrant officer, what would you do with this massive jump in respect?

Cdt Wilson a Sgt on the night said, " It was an interesting evening which everyone learnt from," She added, " Being an nco for the evening was a tough job, I thought it was going to be easy but it turned out there is more responsibility than I expected."

The night started with a large amount of confusion, you've only ever seen the NCO's form up parade so when it comes to doing it, some parts can be missed and when your forming up a flight which includes your Warrant Officer and Flight Lieutenant, they are not really go to make it easy. It's not everyday you can make your CO do press-ups .

However, the evening was a success. Even though part of the evening became a bit confusing and hectic, it gave cadets and staff a unique insight into the background life of the squadron and the running of the squadron.
