| Cadets from 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Squadron gathered at Sutton Coldfield cemetery to hold a short service of Remembrance in honour of the squadrons first CO Flt Lt Albert Garratt.
Flt Lt Garratt was killed in 1941 when the Lysander aircraft he was a passenger in clipped the cable of a barrage balloon shortly after taking off from RAF Castle Bromwich. The aircraft subsequently crashed killing both Flt Lt Garratt and the pilot. Flt Lt Garratt was buried in Sutton Coldfield cemetery with full military honours. Cadets and Staff from the squadron regularly tend his grave.
After the Sutton Coldfield Remembrance parade the cadets and staff from the squadron made their way to the cemetery. The cadets formed up alongside the grave, A Sgt Dan Harvey, the squadrons bandmaster played "The Last Post" and a minutes silence was observed.
Flt Lt Nick Upton said " This has now become an annual event for the squadron and I think it is important for the cadets to appreciate this part of the squadrons history
