| 495 Sutton Coldfield Squadron recently marked the end of an era with Flt Lt Ed Wilson RAFVRT saying goodbye to the squadron he has been with for over 7 years and as the Officer Commanding for 5 years.
In this time the squadron has had numerous achievements. These include the honour of the best overall squadron in the wing for 4 years out of 7, and never dropping outside the top 3. They are currently the best performing squadron for the Duke of Edinburgh awards gained between 2007/2008 in the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing. The band has competed at national level and leads the parade on Remembrance Sundays. Cadets have gained marksmanship awards in shooting, many hours of flying instruction have been undertaken and also many sports have been played including football, netball, hockey, swimming, athletics and cross country. Cadets have also participated in week long camps at operational RAF stations as well as overseas.
All the cadets and staff would like to wish Flt Lt Ed Wilson RAFVRT the very best in his retirement and at the same time welcome Flt Lt Nick Upton RAFVRT who takes his place as Officer Commanding. |
