Three members of 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Sqn have won the Air Cadet National Competition for the best fanfare section in the country. Barely a week after leading Sutton's Remembrance Day parade, they competed at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire against 5 other Regional finalists. The musical trio hit the right note with judges drawn from across the Air Training Corps to take first place in the prestigious competition.

The victory was a fitting way for CWO Daniel Harvey to complete his service as a cadet. Dan who reaches 22 years of age at the end of the month, has to retire from cadets but has already been accepted as a member of adult staff, where he is committed to continuing and improving 495's band performance. Daniel who plays the trumpet was accompanied by his younger brother Michael. Completing the ensemble was Daniel Wilkes who added his talented clarinet playing to the team.
