Academic First for Sutton Cadets

Three cadets from 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Sqn have become amongst the first Air Cadets to achieve the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services. Sergeant's Daniel Griffiths & Jonathon Haston & Corporal James Howle, are the first in the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing to attain this nationally recognised award, equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A to C.

The award, which is certified by the exam body Edexcel and administered by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Office in Frimley, is open to cadets over the age of 16 who, over 2 years of part time ATC membership, complete written training assignments and gain success in practical and theoretical leadership courses, first aid, sport, fitness, expeditions, residential projects and adventurous training – including gliding courses and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

OC Sutton Coldfield Sqn, Flt Lt Ed Wilson said " I am delighted to see members of 495 Sqn achieving in new areas of attainment within the wide range of opportunities provided by the Corps".

Other cadets from the Walmley based Squadron, are due to receive the award in the Summer.
