| During a recent informal visit to Sutton Coldfield’s 495 Squadron, Wing Commander Previn Ladwa took the opportunity to take the salute as the Air Cadet Ensign was raised for the 1 st time at 495 Squadron’s latest headquarters. In front of some 40 cadets, including new recruits, the Wing Commander saluted the ensign whilst the fanfare section played general salute.
Although the Squadron moved to its current location some 3 years ago a flag pole was not provided. The Squadron’s previous flag pole was destroyed when the unit moved from its original site some 5 years ago.
The new flag pole was fabricated by Civilian Instructor Antony Farrell from sections of a radio mast. Antony, an engineer by profession, said that he was pleased to assist in enabling the squadron to re-establish its traditional opening to parade evenings.
Pictured raising the ensign is Instructor Flight Sergeant Cadet Aaron Kelly, one of the few cadets able to remember the last time the Air Cadet Ensign flew over the squadron. |
