After all the hard work getting ready and training for Wing Training Day, 497 (Daventry) Sqn were glad to enjoy a fun weekend, in the form of an inter-flight competition. The weekend pitted the two Squadron flights, Hercules Flight and Vulcan Flight, against each other in various initiative exercises, including mental, physical, skill and a radio exercise. In the evening they had a pool competition and were treated to a BBQ.
The exercises included filling drainpipes with holes drilled into them with water, whilst not getting too wet (an objective which was very soon forgotten), a rope spiderweb that the teams had to pass through, passing messages through semaphore and 5.4 radio mast construction.
CDT Sergeant George Ing , Vulcan Flights IC said “It was good to have a relaxing weekend after all the stress of Wing Training Day, it was really enjoyable and a good chance to improve flight teamwork”.
Flying Officer Pink, who was one of the supervising members of staff said “Putting cadets under that level of pressure and competitiveness has really shown what they can do.”
All in all it was a very good weekend, well done to Hercules Flight and Flight IC Sergeant Seymour for winning the weekend, and CDT Cpl. Tom Clark for winning best cadet of the weekend and special thanks from the cadets to CI Seymour for planning the event. Now on to the preparation for Regional Training Day!
