24 hour stint for Air Cadet Radio Operators
The radio operators from 497 (Daventry) and 489 (Acocks Green) Squadrons recently took part in a tri-service radio operating contest against the Army and Sea cadets. The competition was over 24 hours from 2pm Saturday until 2pm Sunday without any breaks and involved contacting as many other units on as many of the allocated frequencies as possible. The cadets operated in 3 shifts of 3 cadets each throughout day and night communicating with units from Scotland down to Cornwall.
This is the first time the cadets have had the opportunity to take part in this event and Regional Radio Officer Flying Officer Pink said “We are really pleased with the effort put in by the cadets in keeping the station operational throughout the whole contest”. Daventry Squadron has a number of communications qualified cadet radio operators who provide training to other cadets around Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing. |
