84 ( Coventry Airport ) Squadron launched themselves back into their Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions last weekend with an immensely successful and enjoyable overnight trip to Wolvey.
The route walked was thirty kilometres long and took two days to cover. The cadets achieved the walk with an admirable display of fortitude and teamwork, despite the erratic weather and stretches of deep mud they encountered. One group impressed us with their extraordinary speed, arriving two hours early at one checkpoint, whilst the other team did an excellent job of teaching navigation to the less experienced cadets, even though it extended their time in the unpleasant weather.
Saturday evening saw a feast of boil-in-the-bag dinners followed by a number of games and exercises designed to reinforce the teamwork and leadership skills
the cadets had been practicing over the day. The cadets made a special thanks,
in their debrief, to CI Mr. Adam Preece who had organised the expedition. Some good points about the expedition, according to the cadets, were the campsite itself, the organisation, the fun and games in the evening and the wide selection of ducks and geese who seemed eager to join in with the cadets' activities.
The whole team, both staff and cadets, enjoyed the weekend and are looking forward to the next expedition which will be held in Matlock in May.
