84 ( Coventry Airport ) Squadron recently reached the conclusion of their hard work, with the assessed expedition for the Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Ten of their cadets have now successfully completed the expedition section of the Award.

The expedition, run by Training Officer, Adam Preece, took place in Derbyshire, near to Matlock, and provided the cadets with a beautiful, but challenging terrain over their two days of walking. Luckily the weather, despite the gloomy forecast, was mostly dry and the cadets even had some sunshine to walk in on the second day.

Unfortunately the walk on the first day ended too late for the cadets to take part in the teamwork exercises and games they enjoyed on their practice expedition. The second day, however, they upped their game and finished early enough not just for the fun and games, but also for a slice of genuine Bakewell Pudding and rare cup of tea made by the staff!

Overall the expedition was hard work, but a lot of fun - and the lack of any SNCOs gave the corporals a rare chance to exercise their leadership qualities as the highest ranks present.

O/ic of the Squadron, Simon Caughey, says “the cadets have worked extremely hard to get to the expedition stage.  I am really proud of all their achievements and would also like to thank all the staff that got them there.” The whole Squadron is looking forward to the next expedition at the end of July where the new junior cadets will get to experience their Initial Expedition Training.
