On a recent visit to 84 (Coventry Airport) Squadron the Wing Training & Personnel Officer Squadron Leader Martin Harrison took the opportunity of presenting the new Wing Training Commendation to cadets.
The idea of an alternative award for cadets who represent their Wing at Regional or Corps level but do not qualify for a Blue was raised earlier in the year at the Squadron Commanders’ Conference following which the Training Commendation was devised.
The Commendation is available to all Warwickshire & Birmingham personnel who fit the criteria and specifically covers Drill, Band, First Aid, Aircraft Recognition, Aircraft Modelling, Shooting and any other events considered appropriate. In addition the Commendation may be awarded for services towards training on the Wing.
84 Squadron entered the Regional Drill and Shooting Team earlier this month but failed to clinch the all important trophy coming third overall despite putting in a really good effort.
Squadron Leader Harrison said “It is always good to be able to present something to cadets that demonstrates their personal commitment and achievement. I know that the unit – together with all the others who entered the various Regional Training Day competitions – put in a lot of effort and personal sacrifice and the fact they got to represent their Wing in the first place is a mammoth achievement” |
