Cadets and staff of 8F (1 st City of Coventry) Squadron are relaxing after a very busy weekend of working within the Community, promoting the squadron and recruiting for our induction evening on 8 th July and the also managed to raise some squadron funds.
Saturday saw staff and cadets invited to a local community fete in the Potters Green area which was very well attend for over 4 hours.
There were many individual events throughout the afternoon, one of which saw the cadet drill team perform a drill display to attract attention from the crowds. Once completed, volunteers were put through their paces and performed drill movements.
Information on the corps and in turn the squadron was readily available to potential new recruits and soldier face painting and other sales raised some funds for the squadron.
Flight Lieutenant Amanda Sinfield RAF VR(T) said "Credit must go to Corporal Richard Hulm who liaised with the event organisers to secure 8F a stand and the opportunity to be given a slot in the display schedule for drill"
Up again bright and early on Sunday, cadets, staff and members of the civilian committee took their posts as marshals of the Coventry Fun Run.
The annual event attracted more than 3000 runners and 2008 was the 18 th year that 8F have provided route marshals who also ensured that the water point in Coventry city centre provided plenty of refreshments for the runners. The cadets and runners had great fun on a very warm morning that resulted in several very wet cadets.
Back in the War Memorial Park , 8F Squadron also had a stand again advertising the corps giving information on our activities.
Flight Lieutenant Amanda Sinfield said, "It has been a very busy weekend and I must thank the efforts of the cadets staff and civilian committee. 8F Squadron has promoted itself very positively in the community and I am very pleased by the number of potential recruits we hope to welcome at our induction evening on 8 th July".
