First for Aid

During the half term break most youngsters stayed home watching TV.

This was not the case for twenty cadets from 8F (1 st City of Coventry ) Squadron, who spent some of their week working to achieve their St Johns Ambulance Lifesaver Plus award.

For 2 days cadets were taught how to deal with first aid scenarios from cuts and bruises to resuscitation by representatives of St John's Ambulance at their headquarters in Wyken, Coventry.

Bandaging and recovery positions were practiced together with instructions on treating casualties for diabetes, shock and epilepsy.

On day 3, the cadets were instructed in resuscitation and went on to be individually assessed in three separate scenarios; arranging a casualty into the Recovery position, a successful handling of a First Aid scenario to receive the award and correctly performing the resuscitation process.

19 cadets passed the course and as a result of their achievement, these cadets are now eligible to wear a badge in recognition of the award on their uniform.

OIC 8F Squadron - Amanda Sinfield said 'To get 19 youngsters to take part in an activity during the half term break is a great example of our cadets' involvement in their local communities as this training will enable them to assist anyone they come across in need of First Aid. I am proud of all of them as they should be in themselves'
