Commanding First Female Cadet

In August 1988 Amanda Sinfield (nee Mason) was the first female cadet to join 8F (1 st City of Coventry ) Squadron, Air Cadets in Wyken, Coventry.

Twenty years later, Amanda has been promoted to Flight Lieutenant and has taken over as the first female Commanding Officer of the squadron.

During her time as a cadet, Amanda was promoted through the ranks to the top cadet rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and from there took her RAF VR(T) commission in the Corps in July 1995. Since then she has worked as the squadron adjutant and has also coordinated the squadrons Duke of Edinburgh award and BTEC training schemes.

Highlights of Amanda's cadet career include attainments such as her Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, Best cadet in the Wing, various RAF camps including two at RAF stations in Germany, various activities such as leadership courses, and the core activities such as Flying, Gliding scholarship, and Adventure Training.

On being promoted and taking command of the squadron, Flight Lieutenant Sinfield said 'the cadets at 8F are motivated, committed and make the most of the unique opportunities available to them. They are a credit to the Squadron and to Coventry . I had a great time as a cadet and have both skills and memories that have stayed with me ever since. I am now very proud to be leading 8F Squadron and to be associated with a dedicated team of staff and a fantastic group of young people.'
