It was a thriller of a fundraiser on Saturday, as 8F(1 st City of Coventry ) Squadron collected money for Help For Heroes at the Michael Jackson tribute on ice night. Ten cadets gathered at the Coventry Skydome on the 12 th December to raise money for the charity which provides practical, direct support for our wounded military personnel.
“It is a charity that is very close to our hearts,” says Squadron Commanding Officer, Flying Officer Amanda Hobbins. “Many of our cadets have left to join the forces, whilst a number of our current cadets have relatives in the military and one of our Civilian Instructors is leaving us to join the RAF next month. With such connections, it is unsurprising that so many of our cadets have given up their Saturday evening to raise money for this cause, but I am very proud of them nonetheless.”
“We all really want to help the men and women who are fighting for us and this is something practical that we can do.” Cadet Kimberley Burt smiled and shook her collecting tin. “It's cool knowing that we're raising money that will really help someone.”
The Christmas spirit at the event definitely encouraged peoples' generosity and the cadets collected an impressive £380 to help our heroes, hopefully making it a more merry Christmas for an injured serviceman or woman.
