Santa's Little Helpers pack bags at The Ricoh

Santa's Little Helpers pack bags at The RicohIt is going to be a very merry Christmas for one Coventry Squadron this year, as 8F (1 st City of Coventry) were granted a bag-packing slot at the Ricoh Tescos just twelve days before Christmas. Fifteen cadets turned out on Sunday 13 th December and worked from 11am until 2pm packing customers' shopping into bags for them in the hopes that they would be inspired to make a donation to the Squadron.

Senior NCO, Cadet Sgt Matthew Hill was pleased with the day's work. “We all work hard on a day like this, so it's great to know that the money we raise is going to go to our Squadron.”

One junior cadet, Cdt Charlie Watkins, was quick to assure the CO that he knew what he was doing when he showed up at Tescos that morning.  "My mum showed me how to pack the shopping bags before I came."  It's that sort of attention to detail that distinguishes the 8F cadets, or so the Squadron's Commanding Officer, Flying Officer Amanda Hobbins, likes to think.

Santa's Little Helpers pack bags at The Ricoh“It's not always an easy job, especially for the cadets that volunteer to do the whole day's bag-packing, so I'm very proud of the turnout we've had for this event. 8F has a long tradition of providing the best for their cadets, so it's really rewarding for the staff to see the cadets helping raise the money that keeps their Squadron strong. We are very grateful to the Ricoh Tescos for granting us this opportunity and to our cadets' mums for making sure they're fully prepared!”

By the end of the day over £560 had been raised, all of which will be going towards upkeep of the Squadron's mini-bus, making sure the Squadron has the necessary transport for all the exciting events they have planned for next year!
