Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing Attend
BBMF Opening Celebrations

On Saturday 15 th May, 39 cadets and 4 staff from the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing travelled to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford to help celebrate the opening of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's 2010 season.

2010 marks the 70 th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and air cadets from across the UK joined members of the public at the Duxford museum.

Although there was no flying display as such on the day, there were plenty of aircraft in the air practising for the spring air show which was held on 16 th May. The memorial flights Spitfire and Hurricane flew into the airfield, but strong cross winds meant that the Lancaster could only do fly pasts on the day.

There were lots of events on the ground as well and the cadets and staff were very impressed with the Queens Colour Squadron display and the music played by the RAF Cranwell band.

Wg Cdr Ladwa, OC Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing, and Flt Lt Broom, OC 497 Sqn, were also in attendance on the day, they were both helping to man the new air cadet mobile activity centre. This is a fabulous piece of equipment which was in constant use by the cadets during the day. The cadets were able to fly Tutor simulators, along with a Viking simulator on the day.

he day ended with a sunset ceremony at which the RAF Cranwell Band and the QCS again performed, and the day was finished off with a fly past of the Spitfire and Hurricane from the memorial flight.
