Over 30 cadets from Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing spent a week at the Army Training Estate at Nesscliff over Easter as part of the Wing’s first ‘Green Camp’. A range of activities was scheduled and the cadets participated in abseiling, confidence building on the climbing wall, fieldcraft and shooting. Over 15 Squadron and Wing marksmanship badges were awarded as cadets learnt the value of coaching prior to their target shoot. The Regiment Flight at Cosford gave the cadets a training day which included a lecture on the role of the Regiment in today’s Air Force, a shooting practice on the DCCT Range, a low ropes course and a pyrotechnics display. RAF Shawbury supported the camp by flying the two ‘top cadets’ on a 30 min flight from Cosford to Nesscliffe which included ‘hands on’ flying by the cadets.
Sqn Ldr Martin who organised the camp said ” The cadets thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the camp which began with the climbing/abseiling to build confidence and ended with a 24 hour fieldcraft exercise under bivi conditions. My thanks to all the staff who helped support the camp and in particular to our Parent Service for their support in man time and equipment.
