On Thursday March the 31st 2011, Cadet Flight Sergeant Callum Brown of 2028 (Southam) Squadron Air Training Corps was formally appointed as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Warwickshire.

During the presentation ceremony held at the Judge's House in Warwick Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for the County of Warwickshire , Martin Dunne, formally appointed Flight Sergeant Callum Brown, to act as Lord Lieutenant's cadet during the 70th Anniversary year of the Air Training Corps. Unfortunately representatives of the Sea Cadets and Combined Cadet Force could not be there but Sgt Cara Davison from the Leamington Platoon of the Army Cadets was also appointed at the same ceremony.

The Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne expressed his admiration for the outstanding achievements of his newly appointed cadet representatives. He said, “Cara and Callum have both set an excellent example to other young people and I am delighted to be able to recognise their outstanding service within the cadet forces by making these appointments today. They are a credit to themselves, their units and now their County”.

As Lord Lieutenant's Cadets, their duties will include accompanying the Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne at special civic and military engagements throughout Warwickshire.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Callum Brown joined 2028 Squadron at the age of 13 and it quickly became obvious that he had great leadership potential, being promoted to Flight Sergeant in January 2010. He is now the senior Cadet at 2028 Squadron. He has single handedly recruited more Cadets to the Squadron than anyone else and involves himself in many of the community activities in his home Village of Napton where he is a Youth Leader. He was integral in arranging a cycle ride for the Help for Heroes Charity in 2010, arranges visits by the Cadets to the local British Legion Care Home in Southam and holds regular School assemblies to increase awareness of the Air Cadets at Southam College .

He is a keen sportsman having taken part in Athletics, Swimming and 5-a-side Soccer for the Squadron. He has both Wing and Regional Blues for Junior Rugby.

Flight Sergeant Brown has recently achieved his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award and having attended a Work Experience with the Royal Air Force Regiment in early 2010 he intends to join the ‘Gunners' sometime next year.

Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron remarked. “This is a great honour for Flight Sergeant Brown, I always knew he would do well in the Air Cadets but to gain his Gold D of E and be appointed Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Warwickshire, in the same year, is truly fantastic. He is a remarkable young man and I can sincerely say I am very proud of him and his achievements.”
