What another Week,
Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing on Camp at RAF Linton on Ouse

Over the period of 1-8 August 30 Cadets and 5 staff attended summer camp at RAF Linton-on- Ouse. RAF Linton on Ouse is one of the busiest airfields in the country and is tasked with the training of future fast jet pilots for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy and Weapons Systems Officers for the Royal Air Force.

Cadets had the opportunity during the week to visit 2 operational Squadrons and literally climb all over the Tucano! talk in depth to the student pilots has well as the QFI's.There was a number of visiting aircraft such as the Puma. Typhoon, King Air, Hawk, Domini and Merlin. The programme consisted of the main activities associated with camp shooting.AEF (at Church Fenton) nav excercises, sport and section visits including a wet evening with the fire section (the weather was fine but the Firemen made sure we left very wet!!). In addition we were offered 10 GIC slots from 642 VGS who are residents at Linton.

The Cadets spent a day with the RAF's motivational reach NCO who organised a number of challenging exercises throughout the day which tested the cadet's leadership potential. During the evening there was a presentation, from student pilots at the sharp end of the training followed by a talk by .Group Captain Morrell who was visiting us at the time.

Outside visits included an afternoon in York, fun and games at Waterworld,ten-pin bowling evening and what turned out to be, for some the highlight of the week Adrenalin North York's where everyone experienced high rope confidence/teamwork activities during the morning and after lunch a quite demanding, very wet and muddy assault course (as seen on krypton factor).

Although no Cadets were allowed to fly in the Tucano and no staff had the opportunity to shoot down a “Mig” 2 cadets experienced the next best thing namely on the Thales Tucano simulator. Both were put through there paces with enthusiastic flight instructors and found the experience rewarding as budding future pilots.

Throughout the week a hard fought competition between the two flights was contested it was a close run thing and it was down to the drill comp to decide the winners.

The winning flight was presented with certificates and signed prints of a 207 (R) Sqn Tucano. Individual Cadets were recognised for their contribution at camp plus swimming, GIC and AEF certificates presented.

Finally on the Friday evening the camp was given a presentation a dairy of the week cleverly put together in photos and words highlighting the activities and then the staff were entertained by the individual flights with there own interpretation of the week which was most memorable and entertaining.

This was followed by the NCO's paper plate presentation which was most rewarding to watch particularly as they changed for the occasion! Say no more!!

With soft drinks, pizzas and chocolate to follow it rounded off what was busy but rewarding week.
