Cadets from the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing of the Air Training Corps pulled off a spectacular victory by taking the trophy for the best overall wing performance at the Central and East regional field day. This was an especially significant achievement for the cadets and staff, the first time that Warwickshire and Birmingham had ever won the prestigious Fazackerley Tray trophy.
Nuneaton based cadets joined forces with teams from other squadrons within the Warwickshire and Birmingham area to compete against six other wing teams at the Central and East Regional field day at Royal Air Force Wittering on Sunday 4th September.
The 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Band, which was representing the wing in the full marching band competition for the third year in succession, put on a magnificent display, several new pieces of music had been added to running order. Unfortunately despite all the hard work and preparation their attempt to reach the national finals was unsuccessful, they did however manage a very healthy score, which earned them second place.
The Nuneaton Squadrons Corporate Communications team also managed to come away with a creditable second place with their award winning website www.aircadetonline.co.uk in the Corporate Communications competition. Cpl McKeown of 121 Sqn also took second place in the cadet section of the photographic competition.
The wing Aircraft Recognition team from 1368 ( Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa ) Squadron managed to take first in their competition. The Fanfare section from 194 (BSA) Squadron, Birmingham retained their first place title in the Fanfare element of the band competition for the forth year running and CWO Mahesh Chauhan of 194 Sqn also took first place in the solo bugle section of the band competition.
