This August, forty cadets and staff from Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing attended a 5 day fieldcraft training camp at Sennybridge Training Area near Brecon. Although training was primarily centred around fieldcraft and navigation exercises, the cadets also had the opportunity to hone their shooting techniques on the DCCT facility at Derring Lines in Brecon. Additionally a working visit to FIBUA village on Sennybridge Training Area enabled the cadets to see how both regular and reserve units are taught how to fight in built up-areas; they experienced a tour round both the defence skill house and the underground mazes under the supervision of Army instructors.
Another unique activity was Clay Target Shooting which has only recently been introduced into the Corps. The Wing Shooting officer who organised the event, Squadron Leader D Martin commented; “It was great to see the cadets and staff enjoy this new development in shooting and to see them practice their marksmanship against a moving target and, surprisingly, although they are all novices, some very high scores were achieved”. At the end of the camp, the best shot was awarded a ‘Top Gun' trophy.
Despite the bad summer weather, the cadets, many for whom this was their first ‘green camp' enjoyed the camp immensely and look forward to the next one.
