| It has been a busy few weekends for the Wing Training Team leading up to Christmas.
First off was a one day Staff Cadet Part 2 Course held at 163 Squadron / WHQ where 30 cadets were put through their paces on various subjects ranging from structure of the Air Cadet Organisation, role of the Adjutant & Training Officer and they undertook some practical work on ACP 20A and 20B. They also each had to make a five minute presentation to the remainder of their syndicates the results of which went to wads the BTEC in Public Services if the Cdt was registered. Finally the day culminated in a test and each cadet passed. Those who were eligible received their lanyards presented by the Wing Training & Personnel Officer Squadron Leader Martin Harrison.
Next was a weekend Junior NCO Leadership Development Course held at DCAE Cosford. Cadets had a busy but enjoyable weekend where they were taught many aspects on how to become an effective JNCO. They each had to prepare for and present their results of a discussion document on a given subject to the rest of the course and all had the chance to lead their syndicate on practical leadership exercises. Each cadet received a personal feedback sheet that was sent to their OCs for discussion in order that the candidates can look to developing their own attributes.
Five cadets were awarded ‘Best In Syndicate' and these were Cdt Alex Mutton of 2438 Sqn, Cdt Kate Jacka of 1289 Sqn, Cdt Kal Sud of 8F Sqn, Cpl Jess Brady of 29F and Cdt Adam Kesterton 487 Sqn. (Photograph)
Finally a one day BASIC Course was held for cadets aged 18 and over. This course covered all the necessary aspects for cadets to be able to perform their roles as adults within the ACO and included child welfare, duty of care, health and safety.
A long day but worthwhile to ensure the cadets are BASIC trained.
The WTAPO Sqn Ldr Harison said, “The end of another successful year during which a lot of cadets and staff have benefited for the courses organised and run by the Training Team. Training in our ever changing organisation is most important and even more so is that we are all ‘reading from the same sheet' and that best practice, policies, regulations etc are standardised across the Wing. I must also take this opportunity of thanking each member of the Training Team for their unstinting efforts during the year and for giving up many valuable weekends in addition to their unit responsibilities to help ensure the courses run well and successfully.”
